VMware Tanzu is defined as a portfolio of products and services that will enable our customers to build run and manage modern applications.

First a little bit of word origin for those of you wondering what a "Tanzu" might be.

In Swahili Tanzu means supportive branches; (Tansu) in Japanese is a modular staircase cabinet.

VMware Tanzu is defined as a portfolio of products and services that will enable our customers to build run and manage modern applications on Kubernetes. Many of our customers modern applications are built on micro services by making it faster for businesses to build more features and innovations, it's a major competitive advantage. Businesses that are build more modern applications, need a easy, and reliable way to build scale, and manage all the underlying containers Kubernetes automates much of this work. And that's why the open source platform is so popular. But now, it requires new expertise to run, manage, especially across an already complex IT landscape expansive data center multiple public clouds, and the edge.

This is just the start of our evolving Tanzu portfolio, which was announced at VMware 2019.
